I dont really have much to analyze and pick apart tonight because...well basically I was blown away by the episode (no pun intended considering all the dynamite set off!)
I will say that I was happy to see the "Bizzaro" world alternative for Hurley. This weeks episode title couldnt have been more dead on: "Everyone Loves Hurly". It was good to see Libby again, and in this alternate life, they got to have their first date unlike the unfortunate outcome in season 2. On that note, I thought it was a funny twist that in this flashsideways world, Hurley asked out Libby...whereas on the island she asked him out to which he responded "you mean...like a date?" CUTE!
I see (a little bit) where this is going, as I have been saying the survivors somehow in someway are replaying in their Flashsideways what has happened in their previous life (i.e. when we see hurley sitting in the Psych Rec room - VERY similar to when we saw this same scene a few seasons back. I dont think that was coincidence)
I fear that the show is taking a strange and trite turn. Since last week the show has alluded to the idea that our Survivors are looking for "love" in order to make their worlds mesh. Im not really 100% supportive of this theory, but its one that i've heard tossed around recently a few times. If the show ends with an emphasis on searching for your "true love", i will be disappointed.( Shocking, i know, since you all know I'm a sucker for cheesy-over the moon-sappy-love stories )
The closer we get to the end, the more we are being served of new information and connections. Am i the only one not being able to fuse all these connections IF they exist? 4 episodes left people!! And every tuesday night, i ask myself: "how the hell are they going to wrap this up?!!?"
What I can gather so far is that now desmond is the ringleader on the mainland and Hurley is the new "protector" on the island.
*(Athena this is especially for you)Did you notice: in the "scenes for next week" snipit the background "music" was the crazy-schizo monologue that Willy Wonka recites while on the Wonkatania when they go through the Tunnel of CREEPY?!?!?! I thought that was fitting. The writers not only have great taste in classic movies but have a sense of humor as well.
JOhn Locke's hit-and-run was the nail in the coffin of my confusion because he didnt have a flashBACK; which i assume is what Desmond was trying to do. Anyone with some goodies from tonights episodes, im dying to hear! Because im practically the mayor of Confusedville at the moment.

LOVED the episode. Matt hasn't seen it yet and it's making me crazy! Ok, so at least we have one question answered: we know what the whispers are. Of course, that just goes back to the whole, heaven, hell, and everything in between notion.
ReplyDeleteWho is that boy??? Scary black smoke guy seems concerned by him and not much else seems to rattle him...curious. I thought Widmore for a while, but maybe it's a young Jacob or maybe even the body that he was supposed to inhabit? Ok, that means that he was actually alive and not evil incarnate.
I'm a fan of Hugo as the protector. I'm still hoping Jack and Kate can somehow be together...did you see the smile when she saw him...there is still love there!
Frustrated as all get out by Sayid. So sad to see him without a soul.
Ok, small spoiler:
again, the clip I saw them film was of Lapeodis and Myles walking together away from the beach. They seemed calm. They are currently in different locations so I'm curious how they're going to come back together. Also, anyone not trust Richard currently? I don't like not trusting him, but I'm not fully on board with him at the moment.
LOVED Ben's comment, "as soon as she told us her purpose she exploded. The island was done with her. Makes you wonder what it's going to do when it's done with us". Fabulous. I'm currently re-watching season 2 with a friend and am hating Ben there, but loving him now. Crazy how this show makes you love and hate the different characters...grrr Michael still.
Claudette - my theory is that we get one tidbit in this episode, two for next week, three for the next and then they have a 2-hour series finale to wrap up everything else...good luck to them ;-)
On Locke: Desmond is giving him a near death experience similar to the one Charlie gave Desmond by driving his car into water.
ReplyDeleteOn Willy Wonka: LOVE that they used that clip.
On revelations: I thought it was cheesy the whole "we're the ones that can't move on" referring to the whispers. Also, this puts the theory that the island is really purgatory back on the map.
On love: I'm hoping that rather than it being about finding their true loves, it's about finding their true purpose. Maybe some people's true purpose is to find love, but some (or one) is to protect the island?? IDK
On 'Bizzaro": Henry and I saw The Wedding Present perform their album 'Bizzaro' twice this past weekend. Struck me as funny.
I DO love Hurley!!!!
I want to start at the end. Desmond ran over Locke because of what he did to him on the island (Locke threw Desmond in the well). I believe that, somehow, Locke knows what Desmond is doing in the Flash-Sideways. Why Locke wants to stop Desmond is up in the air. I believe that what happens on the island effects what occurs in the flash-siedways.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most revealing things about this episode has to do with Jack. He has stopped leading and is now following. I think he knows that he doesn't have all the answers and he now knows the meaning of faith...faith in Jacob, faith in Hugo, faith in the island.
What is the connection between what would have happened had 815 not crashed and the "reality" of 815 crashing? I'm confused!!!
Side note: SUN and JIN miss each other AGAIN!!!! Ahhh.
